Hard not sound all high and mighty (I'm sure most have been down this path at some stage) but it's become a harsh reality that you should really have a rego'd bike for these loops. If you get caught it'll cost you a fair swag of $$$ or if there's an accident it can cost you a shitload more than just fines.....

I'm sure there's plenty of opinions around but just think you don't want to cause trouble for the people your riding with should a situation arise.

MX bikes dont make the best trail bikes in the 1st instance with small tanks, suspension for big hits, close ratio gear boxes and often kick start only.

Going on posted rides shouldnt be about finding new loops then riding them with mates, its about meeting new people then posting rides up, becoming part of a community. Giving and taking. If you want new loops just get out there and ride, there is NO end of tracks and you can stich together something pretty easily. Just take every corner and explore.

People on MX bikes could probably bolt should the police turn up which does happen. In the haste to escape the risk of a decent stack would be significantly higher due to focus spread, putting that person and perhaps others at risk. I really like the piece of mind that if the cops are there I have nothing to worry about but my rebel without a clue days are effectively finsihed.

Getting caught would be a nice big fine and demerit points as well. The rider's liability would also not be covered in any way should they hit another rider. Depending on the location that may be a moot point but one Im not sure on. The Police may even force you to walk out etc.

Im guessing you already know that but for the reason's above Id much prefer to ride with crew on rego'd bikes but often Im not, so in the end its up to the individual to take on the risk.

Perhaps the way to go forward is to PM the person that posts the ride and ask. Id much rather ride with a nice person on an MX bike than a cock head on one with rego. Just a thought....

+1 youll be fine my TM is kick start only with a small tank just gotta carry some spare fuel for the longer rides
even us people with rego run the risk of defects anyway.

i think in all honesty we run more chance of hitting other bikes head on out there who havent got rego. then we do hitting someone in our group,

fuel is a issue but as said above can carry fuel, you run the chance of getting pulled up and finned. but some of the grey zones we ride we run the chance of fines also.

i aint got a issue with it. as long as you know it's your choice to ride.

I think the worst scenario for a group ride is the MX rider sees the cops when posted as a cornerman, then does a runner. The rest of the pack misses the turn and people get lost.

The Cops are going to arrest you all for riding in a pack under the new anti-bikie laws anyway. Dale's got lots of tattoo's, he must be a criminal evil6

theres seems to be plenty of rmx 250s going on ebay and gumtree for around 2.5k
generally tidy registerable and reliable ( if you get a good 1 )
It could even be cheaper than the potential fines. :cussing
I got 2 x bikes for dual riding = 1 x rm 07 300 big bore for the organised rides
and 1 x rmx 250 98 for the bush bashing state forest rides = registered.
on the RMX everything works exept the speedo ( the cable broke so i removed it )
My days of running from the cops are well gone and the bulldozer ride of the torqy 2 stroke is a breeze
to ride but no electric start. feel my self getting softer as i get older!
My next bike will have an electric start for sure. :headbang
but double the prices that seem to start at around 5k + for another nippy 2 stroke but with an electric start!
