Post Drift HD Mini, Go Pro 2 ??????
So I am going to purchase a helmet camera for Christmas, or at least Santa is, but just when I think that I am sorted on which camera I NEED, I see something else and I get all confused again, so I figured what better way to seek clarity than to ask for advice on an internet forum.

I like what the Go pro can do, but really hate the way it mounts on the helmet, but like the way it can mount on the chest.

I Like the Drift, especially the remote for turning the recodning on and off.

Feature wise, they are very similar as far as I can tell, and if they are much different, I can not differentiate as I am pretty illiterate when it comes to this type of technology.

I am pretty set on the Drift, unless I am convinced outherwise through the thread. The one question I have about the Drift is, can it be mounted on the chest, or in places other than the helmet?

Thanks for your help, advice, and comments. occasion14

I think they are all pretty good mate, Cant answer the question about the drift for you, I dont think you can mount it on the chest but Im sure you could mount it anywhere that a pencil cam could be mounted size wise, My advice, is just to go with the one u like. They are all pretty good now and Im positive you will be happy with whichever one you go for. Personally If I were buying new again I would look at the vio or the drift for their remote function and playback. The contour I have I like and backup second to none, the only downfall and it gets to me a bit is I have to fiddle with it wherever mounted to turn on and off and you really have to check if you remembered to turn it on or not. Remote woud be awesome.

I reckon the chest mount is over-rated. If you align it straight when you sitting down, then it points down when your standing up. Unless you stand up vertically on your bike (I don't).

This video shows what I mean

Thanks for the replies guys, good advice.

Mick I think you are right, just get the one I like and be happy. That is the plan.

Pneumatic, great point, I had not thought of that, I would probably be the oppostie though, I tend to stand a lot, so then when I sit, it would probably be looking at the trees, no good unless you are trying to spot koalas.

one thing i found with the drift is their remote's only work some times. mine played up from the start, but i still use it i just have to listern for the beeps,
the new drifts are good wit hthe replaceable lense. thats something i wish i had.
i like the gopro's but for helmet mounted i think they are too big n bolky especialy when they are hanging of the side of a helmet. drifts seam more stream line and compact, drift's have a 180 deg adjustable lense. so doesnt matter what ange the camera sits on you can make the picture streight. gopro's im not sure you can do this ? ( or am i wrong? )
drift has a easy view screen unlike the old gopro's cant see a thing unless you buy a screen for it.

just my thought on it

The go pro may stick out a little, but I had one on my helmet for most of this year and yes, now and again you get caught on things but they are very strong.
My housing had slight crack in it and I should of replaced it! :cussing

Gopro has an upside down mode, where you can mount the camera upside down and it rotates the footage 180 degrees.

I didn't know that. I might have to read the book one day. Interesting... Might be able to come up with some novel mounting points... :D

it only does 180 degrees, upside down. It was available after the firmware update that added the functionality to drive the lcd and battery bac pacs.
