For your interest Simon, I downloaded the 1080p source video from the youtube video above. It is only 214MB for the 5:12 of video. The video is 5.6Mbps stream rate. I even copied it to the PS3 to watch on the 46" LCD, and it looks great. Whatever they are encoding with does a great job of retaining detail at youtube bitrates.

I'm seriously considering getting one of these cameras.

You Suck

hmm

I have the "I want one"'s now

BUGGER

214 meg for 5.12 mins?????????? Bet its not like that off the cam. Need some real processing power to get quality for smaller file size.

On another note have you noticed that the quality of youtube even the minimum to watch has improved out of site from 2 or three years ago?

Oh and you still suck!

They own the Cineform studio, they bought it in July this year.

Ok, I got my gopro Hero2 on Friday.

Here's a comparison of screen shots. The Hero was set to 720p wide angle, the hero2 was 1080p wide angle (a mode the hero can't do).

I just made my first timelapse video on the gopro, it's uploading to youtube now.

To make it I used the free version of the GoPro Cineform Studio software, available from the gopro website.
http://gopro.com/3d-cineform-studio-software-download/

It's made for the 3D gopro videos, but you can use it for 2D stuff.

It's a bit weird in that you import the videos, do a edit of the clips (can't do the start or finish very accurately), and then add it to the conversion list. You can also play with the frame rate and frame size here.

Then you click on convert. Strangely it converts it to a low compression (huge file) avi movie.

Then you go to the editing tab and do post processing, lots of exposure / tint / other weird things. I didn't do anything here. Then you click on export mp4 and it creates an mp4 file using the same compression as the gopro camera does. The gopro compression is twice as good as what windows live movie makers uses (if you compress an avi using both programs, cineform file will be half the size).
