Post The Run Up C break
This is just a test I did last night.

My desk top computer is a few years old and I wanted to test it out so I did a quick edit. The old unit sat on 100% on both cores for the whole edit BangHead BangHead BangHead

So it needs an upgrade.... I overclocked it to 3 gig tried it again and still 100% so I need a quad core :director

Still will give me something to do over xmas..... (anyone rideing from sunday onwards????)

When I get the comp upgraded I will be working with this footage to try and get something special.

Simon u could put the fastest chip in the world in that pc and it would still want to render ur vid at 100% will just take a lot shorter time to render the vid..

quad cores r good for video rendering as programs like sony vegas will reconise the 4 cores and use em..

Hori

You have you head up your arse....

seriously need to do some research sometimes...

The laptop does it twice as fast and uses 70% or 80% (I7 qud core with multi threading)

Thing is I want to use the desktop to edit as it is much better for this.

I have sony vegus

That was done on adobe

I have 4 others as well

Still yet to find the sweet spot though!!!

Simon pull ur head in ..U click Render that cpu is gunna go as hard as it can 100% dont matter if it is a 336 celeron or a 2.4ghz quad core!
thats how there made to work. only differance being the 336 celeron will take 4 houras to do the job the quad core takes 15 minutes.

sounds like u really know ur shit mate thefinger

Simon if u give me a small clip and ask me to convert/render it as a benchtest , u will see what i am on about ur pc is gunna try and doit as fast as it can....

it aint gunna say hey chips lets hang back a bit and take twice the time to finish this job,.u wont be working at 80 % ur pc will be working 100% max all the time everytime....

click on utube watch a vid u might be wortking at 5% cause it aint doin anything

u have a 4 core pc turned into 8core by a term called Hyperthreading... u still basically only got 4 cores of hardware .. the other 4 are windows based made up to split the load of ur programs...

What you are forgetting about is the additional instruction sets and so in added to the I5 / I7 range which is being enchanced again with the sandybridge range of Intels coming.

If you look at the detailed comparisons between the I7's and what i have (e6600) there are huge gains and its not just clock speed In fact its so far ahead of clock speed its not funny.

Hori the render Should NOT firewall the processor. If it is then the setup is indeed under specced.

On my laptop I can run the same edit and still surf.

Thing is its far too easy to loose shit on the laptop so i want to set the desktop up as a data server and editing machine.
(Now I have my office back!!!) I have never had somewhere to set the bloody thing up.

The issue I have now is

what way to jump?

Hyperthreading I7 Hyperthreading does work on the I7 with Vid editing when you have a setup that can use it!

Non hyperthreading I5

cheaper AMD black edition (that is not cheaper as I will need to buy a cooler and is still slower than the I5)

Hmm decisions

perhaps we should get rid of the dribble

My idea is to get the very best TRA footage and make a TRA promo!

Happy New Year

good vid !

I7, 64 Bit 2.6GHz & some Ram died so it's back to 8gb
runs great

also use ramdisk for memory allocation & RAID on 6TB of HDD's

all works great

but still think a MAC is next.
