Post welshies ktm
well its been ages since my last ride and iv'e done a fair bit of work on the kato, thought i would post a report and some pics of her finished.
Last time i was out on the trails in beerburrum katie m decided to just stop, spent atleast 45 mins trying to get her started but no joy. Was running fine (exept for the knocking noise that was really worring me) tried everything we could think of and sort of put it down to a knackered spark plug, she looked rooted. Some of the guys headed on and i managed to push it to the nearest road and then waited for the guys to get back to the car and then mike drove my ute back and picked us up, thank god i wasnt in the deepest of trails in beerburrum, would of never of got her out.
Once back home i decided to get the forks sent of to do the seals as they were leaking abit so got them done at mpe, worth it just to look at the new husabergs! also did some research on the net and found a ktm racing team in uk that sells manual cam tensioner, so ordered one of those aswell.

new tensioner compared with the old one, just need to swap over seal and copper washer.

This is how the bike was on the patio for about 4 weeks, I also bought new chain and sprockets from the man (simmo) at pro honda and fitted them. The day before i got my suspension back i thought i would grease the head bearings while it was stripped, bloody lucky i did dont think the bearings had much life in them. Got a price from ebay of 40 bucks for bottom bearing as this was the only one needing replacement, thought i would pop into suncoast bearings and he hooked me up with new bearing for 15 bucks, so got a bargain. Then the fun began trying to get the bearing out, the shell cam out the head really easy but the bearing on the stem was rusted on, eventually went to bunnings and bought a ryobi angle grinder, thing comes with 2 year warranty. anyway spent 2 hours grinding the thing off making sure i didnt grind the stem, eventually success the thing came off, then cleaned the clamp and greased the stem and tried to get the new bearing on, bugger wasnt budging so back to bunnings to buy a metal pole exactly the right size and gave it one good smack and the bearing seated into place, excellent so i thought i wont really need this bar again and took it back to bunnings and got me 10 dollars back, result!!!!!

see how rusted the thing was, been told maybe from jet washing the bike with the power washer?
Right so today i put the whole thing back together and bought a new spark plug and thought righto the bike should surely fire up and take her for a blast, WRONG!!!! but luckily i read somewhere that a common fault is the kill switch, the famous bumble bee wire trick, yes the yellow and black wire connectors under the speedo, theres two of them one on the left switch assembley and one on the right so took it in turn and found it was the right one that had the fault and god bless her she fired up and it was good to hear it back running.
decided to take her for a kwik spin around the block and at the back of kawana way found abit of dirt and had a mess about for 10 mins, when got home looked at the chain and realised cause it was a new chain from the packet it had chain wax on it, cause i went through some sand and the chain was now covered in sand..............B@##OCKS!!! then had to spend 20 mins scrubbing it clean to get all the sand off, but now look at her.

also added some numbers and some stickers, need to get some tra stickers on her to complete the look, so guess what i am doing this weekend, yep heading out on saturday to kandanga for a blast, then thanks to freaky heading to qld raceway to watch the sbk racing sunday with afew mates, in his company car, so the day is going to cost me zip.... RESULT

Anyway hoped you enjoyed the read, any prizes for longest thread!!!!
