Post Brissy Northsider
Hi guys, I am reasonably new to Brissy (from Bundy) and even newer to dirt bikes. I purchased a 05 DRZ400 a few months ago and after dropping 2k on it (rebuilt suspension, replaced the sad/missing stuff) I am really keen to take it offroad.

Joined this forum to find locations and people to go riding with. Weather permitting I am going to explore Mt Mee this Friday, so if anyone's got some tips or want to come, let us know.

I currently have two sets of wheels for the DRZ, street (17") and dirt tyres (18/21"), so I am keen to try many styles of riding. I watched some of the small wheel sunday at Lakeside a few weeks back, looks like lots of fun, will have to give it a go. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you.

Sam

Thanks for the welcome guys. I will certainly try and get to the next small wheels. I need to get some sliders, catch can setup, and a new rear rim. I have been looking for a second hand one but very hard to find. Ash's spoked wheels quoted me $400 to lace up a a new 4.25" rim to my existing hub, so I will most likely get this done soon.

$400 is a lot of money! What's wrong with the current rim?

Tell me about it, the problem is that it is a 5" rim and I cannot put a wide enough tyre to suit. Both a 140 and 150 tyre gets deformed (side walls basically straight up and down). This deformity flattens out the tyre, resulting in seriously reduced lean angles. Basically every time you tip it in decently you roll over the lip (edge) of the tyre. It is kind of fun and scary at the same time but I am pretty sure this is unsafe. I've read you can put a 5" rim on the SM version due to the different swingarm, but no good for E or S models.
