Good day gents.

New member here.... Looking forward to a long and satisfying relationship here with forum members concerning anything about dirt bikes and trail-riding. In the coming months, will be moving to NT as a foreign national with a temporary long-stay work permit.

GOD bless y'all.

Kind regards,

d_mac

Good day mate.

Will be in Darwin as well Simon but would also fly in-fly out to Adelaide, depends on the company's projects and/or directives.

How is it there in Darwin mate? Man, ain't the place homey to the estuarine crocs! Those salties are one of the most unfriendly creatures in the world, and i believe they are well protected in Australia :| ....Talking about billabongs after the place is flooded hehe.... Gotta watch out those i think hehe ;)

Looks exciting man. Whereabouts is this enduro event, near Darwin?

Thanks heaps!

Trust that everything is well with you all.

Cheers!

Good day guys.

Been here in Australia for over a month now, mainly travelling (work-related) between NT, Victoria, and SA.

Amidst all this i miss my bike, really miss it.

Anyone here amongst you gents who knows about bringing in a bike from, say, another country (like in my case, from Philippines) to Australia if there will be any customs duties and fees, even when the bike you're bringing in to Oz has been purchased long time ago? ....It is not something that one intentionally bought it outside of the country and import it as a newly-purchased vehicle that has to undergo the usual importation tax as a brand-new entity....

Can somebody share an advice on this?

Thanks a lot guys.

Trust that all is well with you always.

Kind regards,

d_mac

Welcome mate. The NT rocks and the wet season is the best time to be there, buy a sub 4.5m tinnie, a 4WD (or even better make a new friend that has all that and kick in fuel and beer) and some good fishing gear and get into it. Go to Shady Camp, you'll understand why its called that when you get there and if you think you have seen a gecko or two wait to you get there :)

Re the bike if you've owned it OS for more than 12months and can prove so you may be able to bring it in as a Personal Import which negates the need for a compliance plate if you want to licence it for road use (need to check if you need to be an Aussie Resident to do that). If you cant get it in that way and its post Dec 88 and you want to register it, it will be an expensive drama.

No matter how it comes in do NOT ship it until you have a Vehicle Import Approval from the Federal Government.

Hope that helps :)

WOW man, thanks a lot for the advice.

Basically, we don't register MX bikes as road-legal as we only use them for recreation, nothing more. i hope that the Federal government will see that as a point of the matter by the time i ask for an import approval ---- But does it even fall as an imported item even when it's an item that's been used like any other personal laptop computers, clothings that one bought or acquired from overseas in the past, etc to start with??
....As far as showing the proof of purchase on the bike, plus the government registry as proof of my ownership, i have them ever since acquiring the bike in 2007.

i do have my would be toy hauler now Pete, and i've posted it at the Bike Transport Pics - acquired it 2nd-hand from a Suzuki dealer in SA.... It certainly is nice for a used car, epsecially after an RAA inspector gave it a high remark after doing 2 hours of thorough inspection on the unit before i purchased it.

Thanks a lot for your time and trust that everything is well with you!

Kind regards.
