Post Another stolen bike KTM 525 Springfield Lakes 9/5/2011
Another stolen bike thread. Ben Stekhoven's lost his KTM 525 at Springfield Lakes yesterday (9/5/2011). He's put a vid together of the bike. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2OB9eybxYQ). The techos should be able to embed that video. Th missing bike is posted on tra too. Ben is a mate of a mate, and hopefully he'll get this one back. He's also had some photos published in Trailbike Adventure Magazine. Like many others, I can think of a few things to do to these thieves when they're caught (hopefully before the police get to them). If anyone sees or hears anything, please get the message through.

I am in Springfield lakes too, and ride around here. I would say I will keep an eye out but fairly sure if it was swiped from here then it will be very, very far from here by now :(. Will mention it to everyone I know that rides to keep an eye out.

Hope he was insured.

Thanks for the replies and PM's. Ben's one of the good guys, and I'd like to see some of these low life pricks stealing bikes get caught.

A bit more detail on the bike:
Thought i would just put some more info up on the bike -

It's a 2005 KTM 525 EXC
Rego is 601CQ registered to August this year.

- The most noticeable feature on the bike is it has BRIGHT ORANGE tyres. I know these are rare because it took me ages to find them. I have never seen any other bike with Orange Tyres.

- It has genuine KTM Black Plastics including the Tank. This is rare as people who would ring a KTM Dealer to price up the plastics would be turned off by the pricing. The full plastics kit was only about $300 but if you wanted a black tank it was another $800 and you'd have to wait for it to come from OS. Bike would look stupid if you only got the black plastics but still had the original orange tank so most people would not purchase the plastics. This is the only 525 i have ever seen with FULL black plastics.

- It has genuine KTM Black Excel Rims / Hubs. This is also rare as the genuine ones were crazy overpriced. Something like $3,000 a pair, so no one would have ordered these when you could buy a non genuine set of wheels for $1,500. These wheels had black rims with a "beige" hub, same colour as the frame on the 2005 models. They ended up bringing out black rims as standard on the 06 & 07 models, but the hubs were silver.

- The other thing that makes these wheels stand out is they are a 19" rear. All the 525 EXC had a 18" rear wheel. Now i'm guessing the first thing a thief wants to do is get rid of those tyres that make the bike stand out so much. It would raise suspiscion if someone was to ring up the get some tyres for a 2005 KTM 525 EXC but specify they need a 19" rear.

- The sticker kit is also a genuine KTM Racing Black sticker kit. Specifically designed to match the black plastics. I had a big stack and tore the rear guard of the bike and could not replace the rear fender sticker. I ended up getting a customs graphics guy to reproduce the original sticker but change some of the logos / design.

- I also put a set of black "Travis Pastrana" fat bars on. They sit up a lot higher than most bars.

- Rear Sprocket is a Black Renthal sprocket i got from the UK - again - very rare.

The combination of all these things makes this bike a one off. I would confidently say that this is the only one like it in Australia, if not, the world. I've owned this bike since new. It is my baby, my pride and joy. I have just got it to a point where there is nothing else i would want to do or change and then some f**cker steals it! But anyhows, just thought i would kill a bit of time and put up a bit more info on the bike. The support i have gotten has been awesome and i cant thank everyone enough.
