What a trooper!
I knew he had some drama with his legs in the early days, but geez that was pretty full on.

The story wasn't done very well. The "Italian" doctor is Dr Claudia Costa, the motogp paddock doctor. He really cares about all of the riders and he rescued Mick from the amputation.

Mick went back too early to try to ride because he still wanted to defend his points lead and title in 1992. Because his leg was stuffed he couldn't ride properly, and he couldn't use his rear brake at all. The thumb rear brake didn't come until later. A big problem was he couldn't weight the pegs, so was steering with the handlebars too much too.
