Post Re: 2010 dakar
sorry about the translation but you get the idea from david castue's site via email...
Monday, January 4, 2010
On Monday, January 4th, 2010
2nd stage: RIOJA – FIAMBALA
Link: 259 km – Special: 182 km – Link: 0 km – Total: 441 km.
It seems that Dakar really begins in this third special, the first one of dunes.
As all members of the team Elf Sherco, David Casteu got up at 4 am this morning to set off of Tinogasta and the departure of the selective area.
Soft sand, warmth curling more of 40°C, fesh fesh in motorbike it was a bit massacre.
Left the knife through clenched teeth, in middle of special, David Casteu took back the morning coat of Samaritan Check and helped Mark Coma out of repair on the lane.
« I broke from the beginning, tells the French pilot blinded by the tempest of sand which blows on Fiambala. In the km 4, I caught Frétigné which had done some gardening and let me through. I met at the head and I continued breaking but I saw that Mark Coma took back me up. We then ran together in dunes. Once it is it which passed over the motorbike, I stopped to ask him if this went, once it is me who falls and it who came to see me In The crossing of a dune, we even fell both had We a very good rhythm but Mark stopped because he had a problem of motor I stopped to see what he had and his motorbike left again Despres crossed us without looking at us even. Farther, Mark again stopped, I cut the contact of my motorbike to help it and I forgot to disconnect the forced fan This emptied the battery. I then took out my pliers and I tuned into Mark's battery. Then, I asked for no no not caller. In adventure, I lose more than five minutes but I regret nothing, for me, the Rally Raid, it is this frame of mind! »

pretty cool that after that he still has a overall lead 8-)

Post Re: 2010 dakar
The Aussies are

108 - Andrew Scott (an expat living in Canada)
117 - Gary Connell (Team Husaberg or SafariBerg on ADVrider)
121 - Christophe Barriere Varju (Team CBV Racing)
122 - Rob Pollard (Rallye on ADVrider)

Rob is going really well hovering between 30th and mid 50's after being 105th after day 1 as finished 48th but copped a 17 minute time penalty for speeding

Only Rob and CBV have completed the stage from last night so far so maybe Andrew and Gary have succumbed to the dunes :( as it was the first day of them

Post Re: 2010 dakar
Gary Connell is out definitely and I would presume so is Andrew Scott but no official news on him

For those interested in the cars we have one Aussie entrant (Bruce Garland) and he is now in 20th overall so is going really well hello2

Rob Pollard is in 59th overall and CBV is in 67th

Current standings for top ten:

1 002 DESPRES (FRA) KTM 03:01:09 00:00:00
2 005 RODRIGUES (PRT) YAMAHA 03:11:49 00:10:40
3 010 GONÇALVES (PRT) BMW 03:13:18 00:12:09
4 003 CASTEU (FRA) SHERCO 03:13:22 00:12:13
5 009 LOPEZ CONTARDO (CHL) APRILIA 03:18:14 00:17:05
6 014 DUCLOS (FRA) KTM 03:18:54 00:17:45
7 031 MANCA (ITA) KTM 03:19:05 00:17:56
8 024 STREET (USA) KTM 03:20:01 00:18:52
9 001 COMA (ESP) KTM 03:22:46 00:21:37
10 004 ULLEVALSETER (NOR) KTM 03:24:39 00:23:30

And for the Honda fans they are slowly moving up at 17th and 19th place with relatively unknown riders so maybe they will take it serious next year and try and get a pro rider onboard

Even the guys at ADVrider aren't sure yet Simon. Apparently bad fuel and vaporising has been a huge problem as it is 45deg. Rob Pollard ran out of fuel 4 times. There is word some of the slower riders were advised by doctors to cut the course straight to the bivouac or die in the dunes. So they are hoping the organisers will allow them to continue with a max penalty if that is the case.

Stage three had 148 starters and only 118 arrivals but there are 129 starters for stage 4 so there is some hope but I have searched high and low and can't get a list of starters for todays stage.

On another note there is a pretty little thing called Annie Seel who has done a number of Aussie Safaris and she is currently in 53rd position overall :o . One hell of a tough girl and is about the same size as Rabs (though much lighter icon_biggrin ) so there is hope for you yet Rabs hello2

OK have found a list of starters for today and Gary is out, Andrew Scott is in still so Gary maybe had mechanical issues. At this stage there is nothing on his mechanics blog even so in the dark. Also have updates to overalls due to penalties etc from yesterday.

76 Annie Seel 54th position
122 Rob Pollard 58th "
121 CBV 66th "
125 Andrew Scott 128th "

Gary Connell not listed as a starter :(
