Post Re: torn acl
I did my PCL...Joy.
Recovery depends on the severity of the tear. Mine was full thickness partial tear, so not complete.
I'm not the right person to talk to though, I didn't do a thing they said to do and went with what felt right "TO ME"
They put me on crutches, think I did that for about 4 hrs before I ditched them. I preferred to keep it moving.
I was supposed to wear a splint, cost me $90 and wore it for an hour then ditched that too! Again I preferred to keep it moving. Got too sore after being in the splint.
Was supposed to go see a surgeon but decided to see how it would go. My knee was "stable" when I put weight on it and didn't give out. So I thought paying for a specialist appointment wasn't necessary. Again, just my decision. Didn't do a lot for about 12 weeks apart from ice massage and rest. Then started doing some stretching exercises along with some gradual weights to start building the muscles up again. 4 months and I was back on the bike with a set of knee braces. My stack was at walking pace also, happened so easy. The roughest part was the cramps behind my knee at night from my compensatory muscles working too hard while limping around....that smarts at night! But all good now and no issues. Again, I wouldn't recommend what I did, this was just what I decided to do.
Hope it heals quick. ;)
