I'm a bit bias towards the Canon brand of things, not sure what the point and shoots are going for at the moment but my last one was an A640 (will be superseeded by now) and it was an awesome camera, it'd been thru hell on high water and kept coming back for more.
A slide down the face of Ayres rock seen in come to an end though.... LOL

Sort of image it took the day before it's spill...

Been just usign the wifes little Richo lately but i'm not all that impressed so i'm on the hunt for another Canon.

Waterproof or not i'm yet to kill one from too much water. just get yourself a good carry case.

The Panasonic Lumix FT3 that redhot linked is nice, but a bit out of your price range. Consider the FT10 instead, it's cheaper and still quite good. It's a little bit smaller and lighter too.

They can be picked up for $194 from Big W, in black only
http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/came ... mera-black

If you want red or blue then you'd have to see if you can track one down at a camera house or JB Hi Fi etc.

When it was released people complained it was overpriced, and at $400 it was. For the price it is now it is an excellent camera. Most reviews complain about poor low light performance, but really you get that in all compact cameras. If you didn't then people wouldn't need to spend thousands on DSLR's. For dirt biking you want weather / dust proofing and shock resistance, which it has. You also want a camera that turns on and takes a photo quickly, which this one does. There is nothing worse than pulling your camera out to catch some action and by the time the camera turns on you've missed it. This camera is quite responsive for the price.

Here are some pics I have taken with it;

As for the poor low light performance, here it is in a very shady part of beerburrum. It went to ISO800 in order to keep a relatively fast shutter speed of 1/200s. The rider is actually moving here and was on his way up the hill, he's just dabbing quickly with his foot as he slips into the side rut. The camera caught the action and didn't blur the rider. There is some high iso noise in the image, but it's not too bad. It's also at full zoom.

I guess that's for you to figure out :)

Here's the comparison of the specs.
http://www.dpreview.com/products/compar ... ic_dmcts10

I went with the cheap one, it had all I need. I have a Canon 60D DSLR for when I want to take really nice pics.

The more expensive one has the following benefits;
* should give slightly better quality photos
* better low light performance
* has a built in GPS, so it tags your photos / where you took them
* does the higher spec 1080p HD videos, vs 720p for the smaller one
* has a hdmi output port for connection to your big screen TV
* it won GOLD in the comparo with similar spec cameras - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q311wat ... ouptest/12
