They could have just enabled the beeps in the bios.

next time PM me or Hori and we will help Free of charge.

Happy to help. (perhaps a beer or three). If you have your original docket and the computer we should be able to tell if they have swapped something.

But if the puter did not beep before but beeps now its likely they turned the bbeps on for diagnostics and left them on.

what shop?

When a computer starts is does a series of POST (power on self test) tests. As Hori said it checks memory, cpu, main board etc etc. If all is good it will make one single beep when finished and then load the computers BIOS then start the operating system. If it does a series of beeps then there's a fault. The number of beep codes is then determined to what part of the hardware the fault related to. These beep codes are in relation to the BIOS on the system board. If no beeps at all chances are the main board if fugged.

Is it just a single beep now ?
Did it make that single beep before ?
If it makes it now but not before chances are the internal speaker may not have been connected and they have now connected it correctly. If that's the case then now need to worry.

Post Re: COMPUTER QUESTION?
I have never seen an option for enabling/disabling beep codes in the bios
of any Award, AMI or Phoenix Bios.

As Frank said, I wouldn't mind betting that the internal speaker
wasn't hooked up to the front panel header.

If it works fine and doesn't hang on boot,
I wouldn't worry about any single beep.
It's when it makes a series of beeps
and repeats them in an endless loop
that you have problems.

BTW, Mine makes a single beep as it passes POST.

my last lot of overclocking motherboards has had digital code display on the motherboard also .. also had reboot switch on motherboard to make overcloking easier from a bench..

But Bathy is right i cant remember disable enable option of beep codes , but maybe disable enable boot screen on startup.. in which if it's mem will hang on mem quick scan .. or cpu sho cpu malfunction error ..
